The Halifax Gazette – 1752
The first newspaper in what is now Canada appeared in Halifax on March 23, 1752. Printed by John Bushell, it carried shipping news, official notices, advertisements and international reports. More than 270 years later, it remains the starting point for the stories of newspapers in Atlantic Canada.
